Each channel offers an individual gain control, letting you precisely match the amplifier to the rest of your system, along with low-impedance stability (2.66 ohms) should you want to drive two pairs of speakers at once. The amp's automatic protection circuit, meanwhile, protects your system against shorts or overloads in the speaker, wiring, or component. It even includes a front-panel indicator that lets you know when something's up.

Another nice feature is the A45-X2's multiple turn-on modes: constant mode synchs the amp with the front-panel master power switch, as with a traditional component. Turn on the master switch and the amp turns on. Audio sense mode, conversely, responds to the audio signal in the left and right inputs. When the amp doesn't detect an audio signal, it simply turns itself off. If it detects a signal, the amp turns on by itself. The third mode responds to the 3- to 30-volt AC/DC trigger input. The amplifier only turns on when it detects AC or DC voltage at the input along with a line-level audio signal. The voltage trigger can be supplied by connecting a 12-volt AC wall adapter to the switched outlet of your stereo receiver.
